Role Details


Volkswagen Group parts personnel are essential team members within the retailer. The parts department plays a vital role in selling parts and accessories, as well as providing assistance to both the service and vehicle sales departments in helping them to work effectively.
Parts advisors are also known as vehicle parts operatives. They are responsible for ordering, selling and managing stock control on a wide range of vehicle parts and accessories.
Duties may vary from employer to employer but will typically include:
Advising customers on how to solve a problem with their vehicle
Taking orders from customers both face to face and over the phone
Maintaining an ordered stock room and finding parts from stock
Raising invoices for parts sold
Liaison with other members of staff
Subjects covered by our learning modules are:
Health and Safety
Handling and receiving stock, storing parts, workplace security
Assembling orders, loading goods, delivering parts
Stock control & parts interpretation
Telephone skills
Customer awareness and complaint handling
Consumer law and processing payment transactions
Motor vehicle knowledge
Improving customer service
Selling parts
Commercial awareness
Stock management
Parts finance

Future Prospects

In the second year of your apprenticeship, you will undertake an Outward Bound course; a five day programme in the picturesque setting of Ulswater. This action packed week will be an opportunity for you to develop your personal skills of leadership, communication and teamwork. The Outward Bound week is a life-changer where you get to push yourself to the max!

Whichever manufacturer you work for through your apprenticeship programme, you will become an ambassador for that brand. Babcock works in partnership with our customers so that we understand their brand values and pass them on to all of the apprentices. Apprentices will also benefit from receiving training on the latest products from each of the automotive retailers and manufacturers; using the latest technology and quite often getting an early look at new models to the market.
